Catalytic grantmaking

Through grants, we help nonprofit organizations improve success for students and workers, especially those facing the greatest obstacles.

We provide grants to nonprofit organizations, postsecondary education providers, and workforce and skills-based educators to help make education-to-employment pathways more accessible and affordable.

Where we focus

We focus on improving both education and employment systems so learners realize the economic value of their education and employers have the talent and skills they need to meet the demands of the labor market. We award grants that:

  • Elevate scalable approaches to career coaching and work-based learning.
  • Strengthen state data systems that enable students to make informed choices about where and what to study.
  • Facilitate engagement with employers and intermediaries to ensure alignment with education providers.
  • Bring stakeholders to the table to make postsecondary education more affordable.

Grant partners

Our partners make education-to-employment pathways more accessible and affordable through work that drives improvement in one or more of our five focus areas:

Clear Outcomes

The Postsecondary Employment Outcomes Coalition engages with state postsecondary and longitudinal data system leaders in identifying state-specific priority areas for improving alignment with the Clear Outcomes Elements of the State Opportunity Index.

Work-Based Learning

Through a series of engagements with states, the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association is supporting the growth of paid work-based learning. States will develop action plans to scale work-based learning, including the expansion of education-to-career guidance, and share their plans with other state leaders.

Employer Alignment

A partnership between the Community College of Rhode Island and Delta Dental of Rhode Island upgraded facilities and helped resolve an acute worker shortage. Through the partnership, the insurer provided scholarship support to students who commit to working in the state for at least a year, and the students trained in a state-of-the-art facility.
